FPIs pump over Rs 19,700 crore in November, highest in eight months

Foreign investors pumped over Rs 19,700 crore into the country's stock markets in November, the highest in eight months, mainly due to government's plan to recapitalise PSU banks and surge in India's ranking in the World Bank's ease of doing business. In addition, such investors put in Rs 530 crore in the debt markets during the period under review. According to depositories data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) invested a net amount of Rs 19,728 crore in equities last month. This is the highest net investment by FPIs since March, when they had poured in Rs 30,906 crore in the equity market. It has been a tremendous journey for the Indian equity markets in 2017. After taking a break from buying into Indian equities in August and September, FPIs bought equities in abundance in November. The strong inflow could be largely attributed to the government's decision to recapitalise public-sector banks, which is expected to enhance lending and propel economic growth...

India has the potential to become a USD 10 trillion economy by 2030 and close the gap with China, said Mukesh Ambani, Chairman,  Reliance Industries . Ambani was speaking at the 15th HT Leadership Summit partnered by CNN-News18. The entire world is seeing a resurgent India, he said, adding that the next three decades will be defining years for the country. The world so far has seen three important industrial revolutions from the late 17th century up until now even as it is now in the grip of the fourth -- one which is defined by data connectivity, AI and computing. India, which was on the fringes in the first two industrial revolutions, can reap the dividends of this ongoing transformation, said Ambani. Outlining the three characteristics that will enable India to improve its position in the world order, Ambani said that there has been a migration from the linear to exponential. “Mobile telephony, virtual assistance and self-driven cars were science fiction a few years ag...

Govt in talks with exporters to resolve issues over working capital

Union government representatives on Thursday met with export promotion organisations to iron out issues surrounding the Goods and Services Tax (GST) refund. Sources say working capital will start flowing before Christmas even as the government and exporters disagree on the extent of capital stuck due to refund issues. Government sources told CNBC-TV18 that the backlog relating to working capital of exporters is not more than Rs 17,000 crore. They said that the government put in place a mechanism last week to deal with the technical issues relating to refund of input tax credit (ITC). However, exporters claimed that about Rs 50,000-60,000 crore worth of working capital has been stuck with the inclusion of new products and services under the ambit of GST. The filing of returns by exporters has increased to 3,000 a day from 900 about a week before. The Centre and the exporters, however, agreed on the need for continued dialogue to clear the bottlenecks pertaining ...

U.S President Donald Trump on Saturday scored a major political victory as the Senate passed his administration's USD 1.5 trillion tax plan, a historic step in tax reform. Now these great Republicans will be going for final passage. Thank you to House and Senate Republicans for your hard work and commitment!" Trump said in a tweet. Avoid 7 spending mistakes and save more money

When it comes to spending, we often lose control on the amount of money that goes from our pocket. In a bid to lead a ‘good life’, we fail to analyze our month-end status. The alluring online sales, our uncontrollable urge to visit the local watering hold, the weekend travel plans with friends, all result in overspending. By the time we realize our mistake, our bank balance is practically zilch. If you want to avoid getting into financial trouble by overspending or rather spending in the wrong places, you need to avoid the following seven mistakes so you can save money. 1. Reduce online shopping We start our online shopping with the necessities, then get too excited with the offers flashing on the sites and end up buying stuff we don’t exactly need. The solution? It is better to visit your local store and buy the product there, to avoid getting lured by online shopping, which almost always ends up in compulsive buying. 2. Movie matters One of the most popular ways...

How to save tax under Section 80C using mutual funds

1. What is an ELSS scheme, or tax savings schemes? How much can one invest in them ? Equity-linked savings schemes (ELSS) are investments in a scheme that offer the option to save tax. These funds invest in equities and investors can choose from either the dividend or growth option. You can invest any amount up to 1.5 lakh in ELSS to save tax. Since such schemes invest in equities, they give investors the opportunity to earn higher returns over the long run. However, as is the case with all mutual fund schemes, there’s no guarantee of any fixed returns. 2. How does one invest in an ELSS scheme? Once an investor is KYC-compliant, he can invest in an ELSS scheme just like the way he does in any other mutual fund scheme. Investment can be done by filling the relevant form and writing a cheque, either through online fund house websites or through online portals. It is also possible to invest using SIP or STP. 3. Bitcoin : What is it??

What is 'Bitcoin' Bitcoin is a  digital currency  created in 2009. It follows the ideas set out in a  white paper  by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, whose true identity has yet to be verified. Bitcoin offers the promise of lower transaction fees than traditional online payment mechanisms and is operated by a decentralized authority, unlike government-issued currencies. Today's market cap for all bitcoin (abbreviated BTC or, less frequently, XBT) in circulation exceeds $7 billion. There are no physical bitcoins, only balances kept on a public ledger in the cloud, that – along with all Bitcoin transactions – is verified by a massive amount of computing power. Bitcoins are not issued or backed by any banks or governments, nor are individual bitcoins valuable as a commodity. Despite its not being  legal tender , Bitcoin charts high on popularity, and has triggered the launch of other virtual currencies collectively referred to as  Altcoins .  How Bitco...
